Process
My paintings are made by pouring latex onto large three dimensional surfaces, usually depicting earth land formations.
These low relief surfaces were originally made by casting very thick paper pulp. Now the work is formed by laminating plywood shapes onto a wood base, which is then sealed. As paint pools and migrates across this uneven surface, I proceed to manipulate it's movement by removing some areas of paint (with a shop-vac) while pouring more into other areas. The paintings take about a week to dry.

As you can imagine the paintings are very tactile with a weighty physical presence, due to their scale (i.e. 4'x6', 10'x12' etc.). As you look closely across these paintings, the seemingly infinite nuance and surprise of the surface reveal no brushstroke, nor suggest any artist intent, as if the paint itself created the work.
